Database Migration Specialist

Description:

We are looking to hire a skilled Database Migration Specialist to lead the transformation of our Microsoft SQL Server databases to Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL) or RDS PostgreSQL within the AWS ecosystem. This pivotal role demands a deep understanding of database migration techniques, AWS solutions, and an unwavering commitment to uphold data integrity, security, and performance during the migration process. Your primary duties will involve evaluating existing Microsoft SQL Server databases to assess the feasibility of migration and identify potential hurdles. From there, you'll formulate comprehensive migration strategies and blueprints, considering a myriad of factors such as data volume, intricate schema configurations, application interdependencies, and suitable downtime windows.

What will you do?

• Execute tasks as assigned by team leaders, following their guidance in the data migration process.
• Familiarize yourself with the existing architecture and start contributing to the migration codebase.
• Acquire a strong foundation of domain knowledge, allowing you to make informed decisions and collaborate effectively with the business stakeholders.
• Engage in collaboration with various teams to construct shared APIs capable of catering to multiple applications and scaling autonomously, with a focus on optimizing API consumption.
• Play an active role in all data migration projects, working collectively to develop and implement top-tier solutions.
• Participate in knowledge-sharing “brown bag discussions” with colleagues, contributing to personal skill growth and fostering a culture of learning within the team.
• Offer constructive feedback on pull requests, contributing to the organic enhancement of code quality standards.

Requirements:

• Development of single-page web applications, complemented by a solid grasp of an object-oriented language such as Java or C#, with a history of working within frontend frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.
• Hands-on experience in an agile working framework, be it Scrum, Kanban, or Scrumban
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
• Proven experience in successfully migrating Microsoft SQL Server databases to Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL) or other cloud-based databases.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with database schema design, data modeling, and query optimization.
• In-depth understanding of AWS services, particularly Amazon Aurora/RDS, AWS Database Migration Service (DMS), and related tools.
• Familiarity with database migration assessment tools and methodologies.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex database migration challenges.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• AWS certification(s) in database migration or related areas is a plus.
• Prior experience with large-scale data migrations and cloud technologies is highly desirable.
